Assigning Goals to your Team

As a manager, you now have several options for creating, assigning, and delegating goals in Kapta.  The following article helps you determine the best decision for how you distribute goals in Kapta.  Specifically, this page will cover three common use cases:

  • Reassigning Goal(s)
  • Copying Goal(s)
  • Delegating Goal(s)

Note: A "manager" in Kapta is anyone whom is listed as another user's Manager in the system.  A quick way to see if you have direct reports is to click on the "My Team" tab.  If you only see the "Team Activity" tab, it means that your direct reports are not (yet) in Kapta.

Scenario

To begin, let's assume the following scenario:

Reassigning a Goal

The simplest and quickest option is to give this goal to one of your employees.  To do that:

  1. Click on the "My Goals" tab
  2. Click "Show More" next to the goal you wish to copy
  3. Click the detail tab
  4. Click Edit goal

Then, simply remove your name from the Assign to field, enter the new name of the goal's owner, and click Save.

Using the example scenario above, here's what will happen:

Making a Copy of your Goal

If you wish to keep this goal and simply copy it to your team, you can do so using the Copy functionality.  To do that:

  1. Click on the "My Goals" tab
  2. Click "Show More" next to the goal you wish to copy
  3. Click the detail tab
  4. Click Copy goal

Now, you're presented with another screen.  Simply follow these steps:

Using the example scenario above, here's what will happen:

Delegating your Goal

If you wish to track the progress of this goal against it's own objective, using the Delegate option is a good idea.  To do that:

  1. Click on the "My Goals" tab
  2. Click "Show More" next to the goal you wish to copy
  3. Click the detail tab
  4. Click Copy goal

Now, you're presented with another screen.  Simply follow these steps:

Using the example scenario above, here's what will happen:

Using the Delegate option, Matt’s goal is converted to a sub-objective that he now owns, and the goal is replicated to both Ed and Andy, which now links to that sub-objective.

When do I use them?

  • Use Reassignment when all you wish to do is transfer a Goal from you to another employee.
  • Use (Simple) Copy a goal when you want to keep your Goal and duplicate it to one or more team members.
  • Use Delegate goal when you want to own the roll-up of the Goal's progress (via a sub-objective) and distribute that Goal to one or more members of your team.

Caveats

  • Goal Settings: Approvals must not be enabled
